Job Purpose:
Oversee the full operation of a fishing vessel, ensuring crew safety, efficient fishing activities, and navigation to optimal fishing grounds while maintaining compliance with all regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety and Compliance:

• Ensure full compliance with safe manning requirements, maritime regulations, and safety standards.
• Adhere to company watchkeeping procedures and legal fishing regulations.
• Maintain compliance with all permit conditions and operational guidelines.

Vessel Operations and Maintenance:

• Oversee the maintenance of all vessel machinery and equipment.
• Ensure equipment is kept in optimal working condition for continuous operations.

Fishing Performance:

• Manage fishing activities to achieve set production targets.
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of fishing gear and equipment.
• Promote safe practices when operating in hazardous fishing areas.

Quality and Cost Control:

• Maintain defined quality standards for all operations and outputs.
• Ensure vessel operations remain within allocated budgets.

Crew Management and Development:

• Maintain discipline and promote a positive working environment onboard.
• Support training and skills transfer among crew members.
• Motivate and lead the team to achieve operational goals.

Requirements:

• Relevant certification such as Fisherman Grade 2 or Skipper Fishing greater than 24m (Limited Waters).
• Valid SAMSA Medical Certificate (unrestricted).
• Valid STCW certification.
• Proven experience in hake bottom trawling and freezer trawler operations.
• Strong knowledge of vessel operations, safety standards, and fishing regulations.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
