Job Purpose
The Ramp Agent is responsible for coordinating and overseeing ramp and ground operations to ensure safe, secure, and efficient aircraft turnarounds. This role supports on-time performance through effective communication, compliance with safety regulations, and close collaboration with flight crews, ground handlers, and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, including Dangerous Goods requirements, at all times.
- Maintain general safety and security standards around aircraft during ground operations.
- Conduct Foreign Object Debris checks and report any irregular or unsafe conditions.
- Perform ramp safety audits and ad hoc inspections in the baggage handling area when required.
- Report irregular activities and compile incident or irregularity reports as necessary.
Ramp & Ground Operations
- Monitor the loading and offloading of baggage and cargo, advising ground handling partners of any load changes.
- Coordinate support for heavy or oversized baggage and cargo, including specialised equipment such as motorised wheelchairs.
- Ensure ramp vehicles are clean, serviceable, and fuelled.
- Allocate and manage staffing levels in line with service level agreements.
- Complete ramp agent documentation accurately for every flight.
Flight Coordination & On-Time Performance
- Liaise between flight crew and ground handling teams to obtain passenger boarding clearance.
- Ensure all service providers are present and prepared per flight requirements, including fuel handlers and airport authorities.
- Monitor flight operations and key performance indicators to support on-time departures.
- Allocate and manage delays where required and coordinate disrupted operations effectively.
- Liaise across departments and stations to ensure seamless coordination and timely departures.
Operational Support
- Assist with crew requests, including coordinating cleaning services, water supply, and restroom servicing.
- Pick up and drop off crew members as required.
- Ensure all handling agents and service providers are in place for arrivals and departures to minimise delays.
- Perform additional duties as allocated by the senior on duty.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an airline or aviation environment, including passenger services, ramp services, or baggage handling.
- Valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
- Clear criminal record.
- Sound knowledge of airside operations and airport environments.
- Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to multitask, delegate, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer literacy with a customer-orientated approach.
