About the Role
The Planning Manager is responsible for managing working capital within the business area by forecasting sales, controlling stock levels, and optimizing inflows. This role plays a key part in improving profitability through effective planning, performance analysis, and strategic execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and execution of business strategy
  • Create, implement, and monitor the business area’s operating plan

Team Leadership

  • Set clear, measurable objectives and drive team performance
  • Provide regular feedback on performance, behavior, and development
  • Manage team performance, growth, and goal setting
  • Conduct regular communication and monthly check-ins with team members

Planning & Working Capital Management

  • Develop sales and inflow plans aligned with departmental KPIs
  • Ensure accurate and realistic re-forecasting of plans
  • Analyze performance data to inform pre-season planning strategies
  • Manage open-to-buy (OTB) spend in line with approved targets and processes

Pricing & Stock Management

  • Monitor markdown performance and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare markdown proposals for slow-moving products
  • Manage replenishment parameters to optimize stock levels and reduce excess inventory

Store & Departmental Performance Analysis

  • Review and analyze store performance using clusters and grading systems
  • Optimize product assortment planning across stores
  • Conduct regular departmental performance reviews and provide insights

Stakeholder Support & Engagement

  • Provide continuous support to country operations
  • Respond to management queries with detailed and accurate information
  • Participate in country visits when required
  • Support existing systems and processes while identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Provide ongoing support for planning systems
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects as needed

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in retail planning, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Experience with planning tools (EP preferred)
  • Exposure to Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel to various African countries when required
  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly in G Suite
  • South African citizenship required
