Purpose of the Position
The Bookkeeper is responsible for accurately capturing and processing financial information to ensure seamless integration into financial systems. The role focuses on maintaining country loan accounts, performing balance sheet reconciliations, supporting financial reporting, and assisting with expense analysis and system-related financial support.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Recording & Processing
- Capture and process financial transactions accurately and within required timelines
- Review journals against monthly checklists to ensure all entries are correctly posted
- Create new General Ledger (GL) accounts where required and ensure correct system mapping
- Ensure all financial data is processed timeously and in line with reporting deadlines
Reconciliations & Controls
- Perform monthly reconciliations and ensure all balances are accurate
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during reconciliation processes
- Maintain updated monthly checklists and ensure all financial controls are adhered to
Reporting & Analysis
- Update monthly Financial Manager dashboards with accurate data
- Conduct expense analysis and assist in monitoring financial performance
- Maintain and analyze financial data files to support reporting requirements
Stock & Gross Profit Management
- Ensure alignment between stock systems and accounting systems
- Perform Goods in Transit (GIT) reconciliations for each country
- Identify and resolve incorrect stock or financial entries
Data & Systems Management
- Maintain financial data systems and ensure data integrity
- Request and follow up on missing information from relevant stakeholders
- Create and maintain vendor records within the accounting system
Intercompany Loans
- Verify exchange rates on loan advice documentation
- Capture and post intercompany loan transactions
- Perform and review reconciliations of loan accounts
Projects & Ad Hoc Duties
- Participate in finance-related projects and provide support where required
- Assist with additional tasks as assigned by management
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 with Accounting as a subject
- Relevant Diploma in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a bookkeeping or finance role
- Retail industry experience will be advantageous
- Intermediate computer literacy
- Advanced knowledge of accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- South African citizenship required
