DHL Vacancies – Flight Operations Officer

The Flight Operations Officer supports the Responsible Person: Flight Operations by ensuring flight planning and operational support are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with aviation regulations. This role works closely with DHL flight crew and ground staff, providing leadership and coordination in all aspects of flight support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all planned flight movements to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Confirm runway suitability for all planned departures and arrivals
  • Assess suitability and availability of destination and alternate aerodromes, ensuring aircraft performance and operating minima are met
  • Confirm flight times, crew requirements, and complete crew flight and duty time documentation
  • Prepare and distribute crew duty rosters to all relevant departments
  • Notify appointed ground handling agents at departure and arrival stations of intended aircraft movements
  • Ensure timely fuel availability at departure and destination points and provide estimated service times
  • Prepare Operational Flight Plans and all required flight documentation
  • Prepare and submit ATC flight plans
  • Obtain and distribute the latest METARs and TAFs to crew members, station managers, and ground handling agents
  • Obtain and distribute relevant NOTAMs and AICs to all applicable parties
  • Arrange fuel, crew accommodation, and transportation, including en-route stop requirements
  • Provide feedback to the RP:FO regarding aircraft abnormalities identified during dispatch or turnaround
  • Coordinate liaison between departments up to aircraft departure
  • Maintain accurate records and visual displays of aircraft availability, serviceability, servicing schedules, flight schedules, and charter commitments
  • Monitor aircraft maintenance status and assess the impact of unserviceabilities on proposed routes
  • Provide operational assistance to flights when aircraft are away from base
  • Distribute flight report information to relevant stakeholders to support safe and successful future operations
  • Communicate any changes to crew rosters and schedules to all affected parties
  • Monitor crew licensing requirements and maintain crew records in coordination with documentation departments
  • Conduct flight following and real-time flight tracking
  • Arrange overflight, landing, and traffic rights clearances in a timely manner
  • Perform additional operational duties as required by the RP:FO

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of South African Civil Aviation Technical Standards and Civil Aviation Regulations
  • High-level knowledge of aircraft general systems and performance
  • Proven understanding of flight planning and aircraft performance calculations
  • Sound knowledge of aeronautical meteorology
  • Competence in navigation procedures
  • Strong knowledge of aviation radio communication procedures with aircraft and ground stations
