DHL Vacancies – Accountant: Distribution Centre – Control Tower & Cross-Border
At DHL Supply Chain South Africa, we are seeking a highly driven Accountant: Distribution Centre – Control Tower & Cross-Border to manage and control financial operations while supporting operational excellence within the Distribution Centre environment.
Role Outline
This role is responsible for the effective management of financial systems, controls, and reporting, while providing strong financial and commercial support to operational teams. The position ensures accurate financial governance, compliance, and timely delivery of financial results.
Key Responsibilities

Manage financial systems, procedures, internal controls, and finance team activities

Ensure accurate and timely submission of monthly financial results and management reports

Facilitate appropriate financial and operational actions through effective analysis and reporting
-
Direct, coordinate, and plan work activities to optimize customer service and operational efficiency
-
Authorize Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable processing within delegated limits
-
Review and process general ledger transactions and reconciliations
-
Manage claims processing and resolution
-
Prepare weekly and monthly financial reporting, analysis, and variance commentary
-
Perform income statement and balance sheet reconciliations
-
Coordinate payroll inputs including overtime, leave, and staff loans
-
Liaise with AR/AP teams on vendor onboarding and support activities
-
Control petty cash and ensure accurate reconciliation
-
Maintain and manage the Fixed Asset Register, including physical verification
-
Ensure smooth operation and deadline compliance for AR, AP, and POD processing functions
Financial Control & Reporting
-
Ensure financial systems, procedures, and SOPs are implemented and adhered to
-
Take accountability for audits, ensuring corrective actions and management controls are applied
-
Implement, manage, and analyze the ABC costing system
-
Prepare monthly operational and financial performance reports with clear insight and commentary
-
Monitor performance against budgets and latest estimates, identifying and investigating variances
-
Control capital expenditure and ensure accurate asset management
-
Coordinate financial documentation submissions to Head Office
-
Manage credit reviews and ensure timely clearance of credit claims
-
Coordinate SLA submissions and performance analysis
-
Consolidate and review monthly financial performance, balance sheets, and cash flow
-
Prepare annual forecasts, including variance and sensitivity analysis
-
Ensure compliance with GAAP, statutory requirements, and DHL corporate standards
Strategic & Commercial Support

Provide financial input into Distribution Centre projects and post-implementation reviews
-
Support commercial decision-making through high-quality financial analysis
-
Assist business unit management in identifying strategic opportunities for profitability
-
Maintain robust financial controls to support informed decision-making
-
Prepare financial documentation for contracts, capital investments, and commercial initiatives
-
Support annual budget and quarterly forecast processes
-
Review and challenge financial performance to ensure budget and forecast compliance
-
Ensure revenue management through timely billing and collection follow-up
-
Provide financial risk, contract, and opportunity advice to senior management
People Management

Work collaboratively within a team environment

Support the development, performance management, and succession planning of finance staff

Provide appropriate financial and administrative support to Distribution Centre management
Qualifications & Experience
-
Matric / Grade 12
-
Degree-level qualification preferred
-
Chartered Management Accountant or Diploma in Cost and Management Accounting
-
BCom with Management or Cost Accounting experience in an operational environment
-
CA qualification preferred
-
Proven experience in achieving operational performance against customer contracts and KPIs
-
Strong understanding of operational finance within a distribution or logistics environment
