Workshop Manager – Value Logistics

About the Role
The Workshop Manager is responsible for maximising service, sales, and profitability by ensuring optimal productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across all workshop operations.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Oversee staff attendance, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Coach and supervise staff to maintain a customer-focused environment.
  • Ensure adherence to dress code and PPE requirements.
  • Identify training needs and staff development opportunities.
  • Conduct performance reviews and appraisals.
  • Hold regular staff meetings and feedback sessions.

Workshop Operations, Capacity Planning & Work in Progress (WIP)

  • Plan daily WIP schedules and monitor workshop productivity.
  • Coordinate with Service Advisors and Parts department to ensure parts availability.
  • Ensure all vehicles are serviced according to OE schedules and requirements.
  • Manage workshop resources to ensure smooth operations and optimal utilisation.

Customer Service Levels

  • Keep internal and external customers informed on vehicle progress.
  • Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.

Workshop Administration

  • Ensure 100% accurate data entry in Embrace, including hour readings, job start/end dates, fault codes, and job types.
  • Adhere to all administrative SOPs.
  • Accurately cost and close job cards; attach all required documents.
  • Ensure timely submission of job cards to the Isando filing room.
  • Manage quotations from suppliers for outsourced jobs.
  • Sign off job cards in line with company requirements.
  • Record and invoice all recovery billing to external customers.

Reports

  • Pull and investigate open job card and purchase order reports daily.
  • Submit all required reports to management on schedule.
  • Report WIP status and other workshop updates to management.

Asset Management

  • Maintain and manage all company assets.
  • Report losses or damages and request asset disposal according to SOP and authority schedules.

Recoveries & Warranty Claims

  • Ensure proper recoveries and warranty claim processes are followed.

Financials & Budget

  • Manage workshop operations cost-effectively within budget.
  • Report on profit and loss as required.

Quality Standards

  • Ensure workshop has appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Conduct regular spot checks to maintain service standards.

Apprentice Programme

  • Manage the apprentice programme for all workshops nationally.

General

  • Maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Assist with operational functions as needed.
  • Ensure dress code and housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • 3–5 years’ experience in Workshop or Field Service Management
  • Diesel mechanic qualification advantageous
