Tyre & Mechanical Assistant – Purpose of the Role

The Tyre & Mechanical Assistant supports workshop operations by assisting with mechanical repairs, vehicle servicing, and tyre maintenance. This role includes conducting tyre surveys with corrective actions, responding to roadside breakdowns, and ensuring vehicles are cleaned and prepared before leaving the depot, while maintaining safety and housekeeping standards.

Key Responsibilities

Tyre Operations

• Strip, fit, and replace tyres as required
• Maintain correct tyre pressures in line with specifications
• Conduct tyre surveys and implement corrective actions
• Replace worn or smooth tyres timeously
• Complete tyre change documentation accurately
• Ensure wheel nuts are correctly torqued
• Maintain and control tyre stock levels
• Clean and maintain tyre bay tools and equipment
• Travel to sites to attend to tyre and mechanical breakdowns

Workshop Support

• Assist with mechanical repairs, servicing, maintenance, and breakdowns
• Support all workshop-related operational activities
• Complete job card service schedules and parts listings as required
• Assist with the control of spare parts and tyre inventory
• Maintain cleanliness of the workshop, parts store, tyre store, and wash bay
• Provide support to operational functions as required

Wash Bay Duties

• Wash and clean vehicles to required standards before dispatch
• Ensure compliance with company dress code and SOPs
• Maintain daily housekeeping standards
• Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures at all times

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Mechanical and tyre-related experience

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to apply basic health and safety procedures under supervision
• Ability to identify workplace hazards and follow corrective guidance
• Strong teamwork and task execution skills
